This championship course was built in 1987 with the PGA Seniors Tour, Guests and Phoenix residents in mind. As part of the resort’s water conservation initiative, Richardson in 2011 removed three lakes and restored the layout, and original intent, of a pure desert-style golf experience.
The course quickly transitions from comforting palm trees and garden surroundings to indigenous saguaros and desert scarp. Be prepared to take on mountainous terrain, particularly at No. 10, where hang-time drives must carry to the fairway nearly 200 feet below. Appreciate robust sand bunkers, native desert areas, extended greens and lowered tee boxes at Nos. 15, 16 and 18. These holes give players a straightforward view of the strategy and risk-reward options.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club, managed by Troon, serves as the flagship location for the Hilton Golf Academy. Take advantage of a dedicated instruction area with practice bunkers, pitching and chipping areas, and a full-sized putting green. The academy provides courses ranging from daily clinics to private instruction.
