    Our Southern hospitality can be traced back to 1762 when Theophilus Hunter was deeded 584 acres to his brother Issac Hunter. In 1769, Issac Hunter was granted an "ordinary" known today as an "inn" or "tavern". In 1788 the North Carolina Constitutional Convention agreed to locate the new state capital within 10 miles of Issac Hunter's tavern.
