Weekend Guide

Plan the perfect weekend at the Hilton Darwin hotel, overlooking Darwin Harbour and the Esplanade area and within walking distance of great shopping, dining and entertainment.

  • Darwin Airport is approximately 10.5 km from Darwin City. A taxi ride will cost $25-$30. Hilton Darwin is situated overlooking the stunning Darwin Harbour. After you check-in, visit Mitchell’s Grill for a delicious buffet breakfast to kick-start your day.
  • After breakfast, head to Parap Markets for a vibrant local market scene. The markets are only a 10 minute drive from the city and about $15 in a taxi. Wander through stalls with beautiful tropical heleconias, unique jewellery and feast on authentic South East Asian Food. We recommend Mary's laksa, the freshly made paw paw salad and a coconut and lime smoothie.
  • Afterwards, a short walk from the markets is the QANTAS Hangar- a historical WWII attraction where the first flight from Europe arrived in Australia.

  • Visit Government House just down the road from Hilton Darwin. Immerse yourself in the majestic historical building and take in the lush tropical gardens.
  • Wander through the historical Star Village where the old cinema used to be. Perch on a stool at Four Birds with a coffee or explore the boutiques in the quaint Arcade.
  • Enjoy afternoon tea with beautiful Harbour views through the pandanus trees at the NT Museum and Art Gallery. Only 5 minutes drive from the city with captivating aviation, ocean and military exhibitions.

  • For dinner, take an 8 minute taxi to Pee Wees at the Point and try the coconut crusted crocodile tail while you watch Darwin's famous sunset. This is a stunning tropical venue with great views of the city.
  • After dinner, catch a quirky international film at the ambient Deckchair Cinema at Stokes Hill Wharf.
  • Don’t want the night to end? From Stokes Hill, walk over the footbridge back in to town and head to stylish Viva La Vida bar in Raintree Park for great cocktails and live music.

  • Wake early and take a 10 minute taxi ride to Nightcliff Markets. This market is bustling with locals every Sunday enjoying quality coffee and an array of locally grown food and produce. There's great live entertainment available and children's performers to excite the kids as well!

  • After a relaxing morning, explore the beautiful Wetlands with Outback Float Plane Adventures. They offer an exhilarating Top End Outback Adventure Tour including helicopter tours over the beautiful wetlands and Airboat tours where you can zoom through the lush lily covered flood plains. See buffalo, turtles, beautiful birdlife and crocodiles.

  • From April to October, you can't visit Darwin without checking out the Mindil Beach Markets. It's Australia's largest outdoor market with an array of food, craft and cultural performances from around the world.
  • For dinner, enjoy a culinary experience at Mitchell’s Grill at Hilton Darwin. This award-winning restaurant boasts an extensive local seafood menu with a contemporary Australian twist.
  • The dry season is brimming with things to do. Check out the Darwin Festival in August for some fantastic shows in the Botanical Gardens.
