Escape to Trader Vic's with Atlanta Eats for authentic Polynesian cuisine, tropical cocktails & an unforgettable ambiance.
Right in the heart of downtown, inside the Hilton Atlanta sits a retro escape from the
norm. This place is like nowhere else. It will transport you to a whole different world--Polynesian
flavors, cold tropical drinks. It combines a tiki lounge tradition with a new, hip crowd.
Let's go hang out--it's Trader Vic's.
Trader Vic's is a restaurant located in the bottom of the Hilton Downtown Atlanta.
It serves Polynesian cuisine that integrates Thai, Chinese and adds flare to American cuisine.
Trader Vic's has been here for almost 40 years and we will be celebrating our anniversary
here in Downtown Atlanta.
I've got to say, when you step off the elevator here and you open up the doors to Trader Vic's,
you're absolutely amazed. You forget where you are. You see wood-fired ovens and tiki
stuff, it's an amazing experienceâvery, very different. It's changed dramatically
over the years and we've seen an insurgence of great restaurants in the downtown area.
You know, we've stayed true to our roots here and we're very, very proud of what
we do and a lot of the things haven't changed. You know, we have a lot more people living
downtown, so this restaurant has become very popular.
Shay brought the party here tonight! You guys have such a great group. Tell me, why did
you decide to come to Trader Vic's?
We're actually here for a birthday party.
My mother's 52nd birthday.
So, you're having some good drinks and what are you having for dinner tonight?
Well, I'm actually going to try the volcano shrimp, and this Mai TaiâI may get another.
And how about this atmosphere?
Being in basement of the Hilton Atlanta, it's this whole new world right?
Yeah, this is one of Atlanta's best kept secrets. It's really got a neat kind of
atmosphere, the drinks are fantastic, the food is excellent. I couldn't recommend
What really makes Trader Vic's unique really is the Pan-Asian stuff we do from the wok
and then our Tandor style ovens, wood burning ovens really make for some very, very unique
foodsâsomething no other restaurant in the city has. Basically what it does, on steaks
as an example, it sears it and it gets a great crust on the outside, but it stays really,
really juicy on the inside, nice and moist, and you get a little kiss of smoke. I'm
very, very proud of Chef Cheing and the job that he does down here in this restaurant.
He's been here forever and he's just a gentleman of a guy and an extremely talented
chefâvery, very passionate about what he does.
Chef Cheing is amazing on the wok and one of the things he loves making is the wok stir-fried
seafood, which has lobster in it, scallops and shrimp, and it's just a wonderful dishâpeople
People are looking for the consistency of our food, the consistency of our drinks. This
is the home of the Mai Tai. You know, Mai Tai was invented by Trader Vic's.
Hanging out with my favorite Tiki expert here. So, Paul you come in from outside, downtown
Atlanta, you walk into Trader Vic's and you're really transported to a different
place, a different time. Tell us about the history and the tradition of the Mai Tai.
Trader Vic in 1944 was hanging out at the bar and he mixed this up using orgeat syrup,
simple syrup, lime juice, some rum and went to the lady who sipped it and went âMai
Tai Roi!â, which is in Tahitian, âThe Bestâ.
Mai Tai Roi! Did I get it right? Awesome, cheers!
That is great.
So, Rick, you're a regular here at Trader Vic's. You've got a nice drink in front
of you. What are you having tonight?
I'm having a Menehune Juice.
Tell me, why are you a regular at Trader Vic's? What keeps you coming back?
Escape is a mum. It's one of the few places in Atlanta where you can get away.
People, after they've had work, they just come here to have a Mai Tai. People just come
also for our nice dessert. Our flambe, bananas foster that we serve and cook at the table.
So, we just saw this incredible table-side dessert service.
Ice cream and bananas and fruit and caramel, it's delicious.
We're two regulars. We bring our kids, we bring our friends, we bring everybody to Trader
Vic's because this place is a classic Tiki restaurant. It's something old school mixed
with something new school.
What I like about this restaurant, mostly, Trader Vic's. Even though we're Polynesian,
we're always looking to please our guests. They just come here to have a Mai Tai, have
a dinner here and have a great time.
It's a cool place to be, with cool people, drinking cool drinks, eating cool food.
Experience Nikolai's Roof with Atlanta Eats! Located on the top level of Hilton Atlanta, Nikolai's Roof has delighted guests since 1976 with its stunning views of the Atlanta's skyline, masterfully prepared cuisine, impeccable service and award-winning wine list.
Anybody who watches Atlanta Eats knows the city is filled with countless outstanding
neighborhood restaurants, but sometimes, you want to take it up a levelâone of those
beautiful, classy spots where you feel transported the minute you walk in. For sure, they've
got classy caviar and martinis, but how about an outstanding rack of lamb, a delicious duck
breast, and the perfect steak. Located in downtown Atlanta, on the top of the Hilton
hotel, it's a view like nothing in the city. Let's hang, at Nikolai's Roof.
Nikolai's Roof is an Atlanta institution, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Nikolai's Roof is a place to come for a romantic dinner. It's a place to come to
have a celebration. It's a place to come if you just want to have a casual dinner.
What we're trying to do is to get away from that phrase âfine diningâ.
How do you feel about a beautiful, romantic night at Nikolai's Roof, the three of us?
This is just perfect, you get the view, you get the intimate environment. I think the
food is elegant, but approachable. I think you can get a steak, but it doesn't feel
overdone or stuffy. It's straightforward, but very elegant in simplicity, so I think
you can't go wrong.
Nikolai's Roof is a fun place to eat. It's a wonderful restaurant and we have an excellent
I'm the Chef de Cuisine at Nikolai's Roof at the Hilton Atlanta. Our food is very, I'd
say modern American, uses influences from all over the world, really. I kind of use
whatever I'm interested in at the moment, whatever is fresh, whatever is seasonal that
we can get our hands on. I would not call it fine dining. They're
aren't as many rules. We want people to be comfortable in your sports jacket, or in
your, you know, prom gown before your special event. It's not fine dining, but it's
still very high-end food and service.
We do a little happy hour between 5:30 and 7:30. We do get business people coming in
from the surrounding area, to come in for cocktails. We have our flavored vodkas, which
have been a standard here since day one. We infuse our own vodkas, so people come in for
Is there like a great energy about being at Nikolai's Roof?
Oh, we love it here. We came here on my birthday about three years ago and we wanted to come
back. Yeah, we've just started, we've had puffed pastriesâthey're delicious,
and we have our vodka shots.
You can't miss those.
I feel like we're talking to a legend of Nikolai's Roof, right? You have been coming
here, tell me how long you've been coming here.
30 years this year.
I need a little education, right? So, tell me about this.
It's a Russian piroshkyâa puffed pastry filled with a minced meat, in this case chicken
with tarragon in a bearnaise sauce.
Mmm, man. Wow. That is moist.
You need six of those.
I think I do. Honestly.
I can eat about 10 of those.
So, how long have you been coming here for?
Ummm, since 2008.
I have an addictive personality.
They're fantastic. We have them every time we get here.
My favorite entrée is the duck. It's a beautiful dish, she does a wonderful job with
that. For dessert we have our crème brulé soufflé,
a throwback to the 60s and 70s, but people still get so excited about soufflés.
We went through a renovation two and a half years ago and brought a fresher, more contemporary
look to it on our lounge side and on our dining room side.
The views from our dining room are just incredible with the city.
Tell me what you think after spending your evening at Nikolai's Roof. What do you think
of this place?
It's very relaxing actually. I love the view, I've never been to any sky bars in
It's beautiful, the wine is delicious.
Is this a place you go to close a deal?
I have closed several deals here.
Really? Big deals!
Why do you keep coming back to Nikolai's Roof?
It's delicious. Like, the five-course meal, like everything from beginning to end.
Standard is very high here at Nikolai's Roof. In the dining room servers are trained
impeccably. They know the food and can field any questions. We do offer complimentary valet
parking or self-parking.
Great view, great friends, excellent food.
It's casual elegance. It's a wonderful experience and it's something that you won't
You going to take me along, you and your girlfriend?
That's a good idea. Yeah. And your name is Steak, so you know you already sound delicious.
