Weekend Guide

Plan the perfect weekend at the Hilton Queenstown hotel, enjoying commanding views of Lake Wakatipu and in close proximity to major ski areas, world class golf courses and attractions giving Queenstown the title 'Adventure capital of the world'.

  • Queenstown International Airport is approximately a 5 minute drive to Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa and Kawarau Village. A taxi ride will cost about NZD$25 to the hotel. Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa is the only hotel positioned directly on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. After you check-in, visit our signature restaurant Wakatipu Grill for a delicious buffet breakfast to kick-start your day.
  • If you love a thrill, quad biking with ‘Off Road Adventures’ is what we suggest. You will be picked up from the hotel at 9am where you will head to the Nevis Valley.
  • Once you return, take a walk along Kelvin Peninsula and enjoy the picturesque views of Queenstown. Follow the trail as far as you would like and on the way, take a break with a freshly brewed coffee at Jack's Point Cafe whilst taking in the view. This is approximately a 1 hour walk from Kawarau Village.

  • Once you get back to the hotel, drive though the Cromwell Gorge to Wild Earth Winery were you will meet the Owner Quintin Quider. Quintin will give you a personalised tour of the vineyard, followed by a very special lunch served beside the Kawarau River, showcasing wild game food in his custom made ‘Wine Barrel Smoker’. Wild Earth is located 30 minutes out of Queenstown.
  • Before heading back to the hotel, pop into ‘Wine Tastes’ in Queenstown Mall.  Located right in the heart of Queenstown, Wine Tastes is one of the largest wine tasting experiences in the world.  Serve yourself a taste, half or full glass from over 80 different wines for tasting using the state-of-the-art Enomatic Wine Serving System. Enjoy a delicious cheese board selected from the menu as you relax in the comfort of the wine lounge.

  • Complete your Saturday in town at The Cow - a small, cosy and atmospheric restaurant. The menu is still the same as when the restaurant opened its doors in 1976, featuring a delicious mix of hand rolled pizza and pasta dishes, hot soup and homemade bread and salad. This winning combination has made diners come back again and again. Located in Queenstown town, approximately 15 minutes from the hotel.

  • Queenstown has arguably the most picturesque landscape in the world. Why not experience such magnificent views at sunrise from a hot air balloon. Enjoy panoramic views of coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski fields, Mount Aspiring in the Southern Alps and Mount Tutoko in Fiordland National Park.
  • After the hot air balloon ride, take the complimentary shuttle service to town and enjoy breakfast at Joe’s Garage. This cafe is a true local’s breakfast hotspot. We suggest you try a ‘sweetie’ – best buns in town!

  • Time to relax on a Sunday afternoon! Check-in to eforea: spa at Hilton and experience head-to-toe sensory bliss. With 10 treatment rooms, including couples’ rooms and a presidential spa suite, this is Queenstown’s largest and newest spa. Choose one of three journeys – The Essential Journey, The Local Escape Journey or The Men’s Journey - allowing you to transform and emerge brighter.  eforea: spa is located on Level 4 of Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa.
  • Once revitalised, pop into Stacks Pub at Kawarau Village for a nice ice cold beer or warm mulled wine for that added treat. Order a delicious antipasto platter and sit back and watch the boats come and go on Lake Wakatipu.

  • Jump on the Water Taxi from Kawarau Village jetty and enjoy the 8 minute speed boat ride to Queenstown town. Get off at Steamer Wharf and have a wander around the shops or simply enjoy the tranquil lake setting.
  • Make your way to Real Journey’s desk on Steamer Wharf and hop on board the 100 year old TSS Earnslaw Steam Boat to enjoy the Walter Peak Dinner Cruise.  Once you’re docked, you will be taken to Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant at Walter Peak High Country Farm to enjoy a fabulous Gourmet BBQ dinner which the chef will prepare in front of you.
